Another popular legend is that an English pirate, a collaborator of Sir Francis Drake, made up a drink in Havana that is similar to the Mojito by mixing aguardiente, sugar, lime and mint as a remedy against scurvy and dysentery that plagued the crew of the ship. Shortly after, a cocktail known as ‘El Draque’, was made with similar ingredients, popular in Cuba.
Yet another example of a signature cocktail is the Bellini. It was invented by Giuseppe Cipriani, the barman and owner of Harry’s Bar in Venice, Italy. Italian white peaches were among Cipriani’s favorite fruit, but they were only available from June to September. In a moment of inspiration, he created this refreshing Summer’s drink by combining the fresh white peaches with prosecco. He named the cocktail after Giovanni Bellini, a famous 15th century Italian painter.
